We used to go to the Swedish Church Christmas Bazaar every year, shopping for gifts and sampling the traditional food, and it was fascinating. Many of the crafts they made were traditions of centuries past, like fine paper cut-outs, beeswax candles, and hand made decorations. This video is from the Swedish Shipping Lines in the 1960’s and shows the traditional festivity which goes on for weeks. The cooking is interesting and thought it’s long, it’s an easy viewing because it’s simple and has lovely scenery. Enjoy!

Totally enchanting Monika. What a joy to wander back to simpler times.
I love these vintage clips that you find Monika- please keep pulling them out and putting them up.

I love these old videos, especially the narrators. What fabulous footage! karen
I’m amazed at the amount of trust put into the kids with those candles! I’ll bet that headpiece has long been modernized with battery-powered “flame.”
This made me miss cross country skiing, too. I hope it snows enough this winter to motivate me out of the house and on a trail.
Thanks, Ladies! It seems to remind of simpler times, huh! 😉
Now I know where I get my craving for marzipan… from my Swedish grandmother!
And I am so going to make a crown of candles for myself.
You laugh! Just watch. 🙂
This is a delight to watch. I agree, keep posting these, Monika.
Exactly, Lori!! It never leaves you. Savour that taste, it’s divine! LOL for the candles. I was amazed how responsible the children were with the matches, and I was very impressed, but that headpiece probably had to be blown out pretty quick! Glad you all liked this, and we are looking forward to seeing you with the candle crown, Lori! Might this be possible in digital form??? 😉
Excellent!
